The PlayStation Portal by Sony has been hacked, allowing users to emulate PSP games

The PS5 ‘Portal’ companion device has expanded its capabilities beyond remote play, thanks to a recent hack that enables PSP emulation on the handheld.

Sony’s remote-play PlayStation Portal, which was released in November of last year, has been hacked to allow for emulation, opening up possibilities for playing PSP games on the device. Priced at $200 and powered by Android, the Portal was initially limited to streaming content from the PS5. However, the efforts of PlayStation hacker Andy Nguyen and other enthusiasts have resulted in the successful integration of the popular PSP emulator PPSSPP onto the handheld.

After a month of dedicated work, the Portal is now capable of running the PPSSPP emulator, offering users the potential to enjoy games such as Lumines or Vice City Stories on the device. While the team behind the hack has stated that there are no immediate plans for a release and that more work is required, the successful emulation on the Portal demonstrates the device’s potential beyond its original purpose. Despite the uncertainty of widespread replication, the achievement is a testament to the device’s capabilities.
