Roman Polanski faces new lawsuit for alleged sexual assault of a minor

In a recent lawsuit, a woman has accused director Roman Polanski of raping her in his home when she was a minor back in 1973. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, made these allegations during a news conference alongside her attorney, Gloria Allred. Polanski, now 90 years old, has denied these claims. The woman claims that after meeting Polanski at a party, he took her out to dinner and gave her tequila shots, causing her to feel groggy. She recalls waking up next to him in his bed, where he proceeded to rape her despite her protests.

Polanski’s defense attorney has vehemently denied these allegations and believes that the case should be handled in court. The lawsuit, filed under a California law that allows claims of childhood sexual abuse even after the statute of limitations has expired, seeks damages to be determined at trial. Initially, Polanski’s name was not disclosed in the lawsuit due to legal restrictions, but a judge has now given the plaintiff approval to use his name in the case.

This is not the first time Polanski has faced accusations of sexual abuse. Multiple women have come forward with similar stories, adding to the controversy surrounding the acclaimed director. Despite his success in the film industry, including an Oscar win for “The Pianist,” Polanski’s reputation has been tarnished by these allegations. The case against him has been ongoing for decades, with efforts to lift the international arrest warrant against him proving unsuccessful.

The lawsuit against Polanski sheds light on the long-standing allegations of sexual misconduct that have plagued the director throughout his career. The trial date has been set for 2025, and the outcome of this case could have significant implications for Polanski’s legacy in the film industry.
