Disney+ fired ‘X-Men ’97’ creator Beau DeMayo – but why?

X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo was let go from the series before its debut on Disney+ on March 20, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. DeMayo’s company email has been deactivated and the team working on the show was informed that he would no longer be involved in the project. He will not be participating in press events for X-Men ’97 or working on future seasons. Despite having already finished work on a second season, DeMayo’s involvement with the show has come to an end. There has been no response from Disney+ regarding the situation.

DeMayo, known for his work on Marvel projects such as Moon Knight and Blade, has also removed his Instagram account. The news of his departure came just one day before the Hollywood premiere of X-Men ’97. The upcoming series is a continuation of the popular ’90s X-Men: The Animated Series. DeMayo’s role in the project was significant as he is a gay, Black man leading a series that explores themes of societal outsiders and contains elements of homoeroticism. Fans were looking forward to seeing his contribution to the show.
