Pixel 8 series now supports display output with Android QPR3 beta update

Over the years, Pixel phones have not supported using the USB-C port to connect to an external display. However, the latest Android 14 beta has changed that for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Previous Pixel devices had the necessary hardware for display output, but it was disabled. With the Pixel 8 series, Google left the functionality closer to being activated, but plugging into an external monitor did nothing. Now, with Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2, users can mirror the Pixel 8’s display to an external monitor over USB-C. Android Authority has confirmed that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro can connect to an external display without any modifications in this latest beta. When connected to a display, a prompt appears asking if you want to “mirror to external display.” The monitor then shows the Pixel’s screen in the center with the wallpaper extended to cover the rest of the display. This development comes as Android continues to work on “Desktop Mode.” Whether this feature will be included in the final release of Android 14 QPR3 later this year remains to be seen, but it marks a significant step towards official display output support on Pixels.
