OnePlus re-enters the smartwatch market

OnePlus has announced the upcoming release of its Watch 2, a new smartwatch with a stainless steel chassis and sapphire crystal watchface. The company claims that the watch will have up to 100 hours of battery life and will be available in black and silver colors. More details about the Watch 2 will be shared at Mobile World Congress on February 25th.

The new watch is said to feature “meticulous health monitoring” and will offer a “Smart Mode” to achieve the 100-hour battery life. This is a shorter battery life compared to the previous OnePlus smartwatch, which lasted about 10 days during a review in 2021. However, the previous model lacked third-party app support, voice assistant, and had poor fitness tracking capabilities.

OnePlus president Kinder Liu acknowledged the shortcomings of the previous smartwatch and stated that the company is now aiming to “transform from ‘Flagship Killer’ to ‘Ecosystem builder.'” The company is likely hoping to improve the functionality and performance of the Watch 2 to better compete in the smartwatch market.

It remains to be seen if the Watch 2 will be able to overcome the issues of its predecessor and establish itself as a more capable and reliable smartwatch. With the promise of improved health monitoring and a sleek design, the Watch 2 has the potential to make a positive impression at Mobile World Congress.
