UNCASVILE, Conn. — Paige Bueckers made a triumphant return to the court a year after being sidelined by injury, leading the UConn Huskies to a dominant 78-42 victory over Georgetown in the Big East Tournament final. Bueckers, who scored 27 points and recorded five blocks, expressed her gratitude for being back on the court and playing the game she loves. This victory marked UConn’s 22nd Big East Tournament title and their 29th overall championship.

Despite facing challenges this season, including multiple players out with injuries, Coach Geno Auriemma praised his team’s resilience and determination. Georgetown, making its first-ever appearance in the championship game, put up a strong fight but ultimately fell short against the powerhouse Huskies. The Hoyas, led by Graceann Bennett with 12 points, showed great promise throughout the tournament.

UConn’s stellar defense was a key factor in their tournament success, holding opponents scoreless for long stretches. Bueckers, named the tournament’s most outstanding player for the second time, showcased her skills on both ends of the floor. An accidental injury briefly sidelined her during the game, but she returned to finish strong. Both teams faced challenges with key players missing due to injuries, underscoring the physical demands of the game.

Georgetown, wearing pink in honor of their late coach Tasha Butts, fought hard but couldn’t overcome UConn’s dominance. The Huskies’ depth and experience proved too much for the Hoyas, who showed great promise throughout the tournament. Despite the loss, Georgetown’s historic season and impressive performance in the tournament are a testament to their growth and potential as a program.

As confetti rained down on the court and the Huskies celebrated their victory, it was clear that UConn’s legacy of excellence in women’s college basketball continues. With their eyes set on the NCAA Tournament, UConn looks poised to make a deep run and add to their storied history of success.
