Cosmic Illusions: Hubble Spots a Spiral Galaxy in Disguise

Hubble’s discovery: a spiral galaxy masquerading as a cosmic illusion

NGC 4423, a galaxy in the constellation of Virgo, is actually a spiral galaxy despite its initial irregular appearance. Due to our fixed viewing angle from Earth, we are unable to see its true shape, which includes a dense central bulge and spiral arms. Located about 55 million light-years away, NGC 4423 may seem tubular in shape in images, but it would appear as a classic spiral galaxy if viewed face-on. However, the vast distances in space make it unlikely for us to ever see a different perspective of this galaxy. Despite the movement of celestial objects, changes in our view of NGC 4423 are highly improbable. The study in the Journal of the American Heart Association suggests that more frequent cannabis use is linked to a higher risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes.
