Scheffler defends title at Players with Clark’s near miss on 18

Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. witnessed history as Scottie Scheffler became the first back-to-back winner in the 50th edition of the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Scheffler, the world No. 1, outplayed Xander Schauffele with a final-round 64 to secure his victory. His 20-under total was enough to clinch the prestigious title. Scheffler’s remarkable win marked several milestones, including being the first player to win in consecutive years and the first world No. 1 to achieve consecutive victories on the PGA Tour since Rory McIlroy in 2012. Scheffler’s performance was stellar, leading the field in key statistics and displaying consistent putting throughout the tournament.

Wyndham Clark finished as the runner-up to Scheffler for the second consecutive week, showcasing his strong form with a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach and multiple top finishes this season. Xander Schauffele, despite his impressive record, continues to search for a victory after 34 straight starts without a win. The pressure was on Scheffler as he watched his competitors make their final attempts to force a playoff, but it was Clark’s missed birdie on the 18th hole that sealed Scheffler’s victory. Scheffler’s flawless performance in the final round, marked by a hole-out eagle and crucial birdies, solidified his place in history as one of the few Players winners to shoot 65 or better in the final round. Despite battling a neck injury, Scheffler’s determination and skill propelled him to this remarkable back-to-back victory.
