Bengals parting ways with RB Joe Mixon after seven seasons

After spending seven seasons in Cincinnati, Joe Mixon’s time with the Bengals has come to an end. The team has decided to release Mixon, who was a second-round pick in 2017 and had four 1,000-yard rushing seasons, with 1,034 yards in 2023.

There were concerns about Mixon’s future with the team last year, but he renegotiated his contract for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Despite being due to make $6 million in 2024, the Bengals have decided to part ways with him.

Some may argue that it would have been better for the Bengals to release Mixon earlier, giving him a chance to find a new team before other running backs signed deals. However, the Bengals likely wanted to keep Mixon as a backup plan while negotiating with other players, including Zack Moss.

At 27 years old, Mixon will now be looking for a new team. It will be interesting to see how much interest he generates in the free-agent market.
