The Pixies have announced the departure of bassist Paz Lenchantin after a decade of being part of the band. Former Band of Skulls bassist Emma Richardson will be joining them for their European tour starting on March 8 in Dublin, Ireland. Lenchantin’s exit was confirmed in a brief statement from the band expressing gratitude for her contributions and wishing her the best. In response, Lenchantin shared that the decision was unexpected but has spurred her on to new projects she is excited about.
Lenchantin, a longtime fan of the Pixies, first crossed paths with the band in the Nineties when she toured with guitarist Joey Santiago’s side project. After a brief stint with the Pixies in 2013, she officially joined in 2013, aiming to faithfully recreate Kim Deal’s bass parts and harmonies. Over the years, Lenchantin became an integral part of the band, contributing to albums like “Head Carrier,” “Beneath the Eyrie,” and “Doggerel.”
Despite Lenchantin’s departure, the Pixies have a packed touring schedule ahead, including a European tour featuring full performances of “Bossanova” and “Trompe Le Monde.” They will also be embarking on a series of American dates with Modest Mouse and Cat Power, followed by shows in Europe and an opening slot for Pearl Jam in Australia.
