Austin Stowell has been cast as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in CBS’ new drama NCIS: Origins, a prequel to the long-running procedural series NCIS. The show, narrated by Mark Harmon, will explore Gibbs’ early years as a special agent in 1991, before the events of NCIS. Stowell’s character will be part of a team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks at the NIS Camp Pendleton office.
Mark Harmon and his son Sean Harmon, who portrayed Gibbs in flashbacks on NCIS, are executive producing the series. NCIS: Origins is one of the new extensions of CBS Studios’ NCIS franchise, along with a Tony & Ziva spinoff set in Europe. Stowell’s previous TV credits include A Friend of the Family and Public Morals, as well as upcoming projects like Three Women. In features, he has appeared in Battle of the Sexes and Bridge of Spies.
